Meet A Beacon of Hope:

A Beacon of Hope is a non-profit, faith-based 501(c)(3) charitable organization that serves as the parent organization to our locations in Decatur and Johns Creek. ABOH is the first AAAHC medically-accredited, non-profit pregnancy organization in metro Atlanta. We provide evidence-based education from licensed medical professionals and meet over 550 rigorous standards for exceptional patient care.

A Beacon of Hope vows to serve all patients in a kind and compassionate manner, providing honest, open and medically accurate options education while committing to not provide an abortion or refer a patient for an abortion.  If a patient chooses to abort, A Beacon of Hope will continue to respectfully and compassionately care for the patient, based on their individual needs. A Beacon of Hope offers a very solid Post Abortion Care program that is open to the community.

Thanks to the leadership of the Holy Spirit in our ministry, we praise God that we are outperforming our peers across the nation in terms of reaching the women most likely to have an abortion and saving lives.

About the Development Director:

To support the mission of the organization, in conjunction with the CEO and the Engagement Team, by focusing your time increasing the high dollar funding and philanthropic support needed to meet the long-term financial goals of A Beacon of Hope, the Parent Organization of the Women’s Clinic of Atlanta.

A Beacon of Hope’s Development Philosophy:

Cultivate relationships with current and prospective donors with the highest goal being identifying opportunities to serve and add value to the community as a whole, but in the process, also identifying ways for them to align their time, talents, relationships, and resources with A Beacon of Hope.

The Development Director’s Responsibilities Include:

A Beacon of Hope’s Return on Investment Expectations:

This role is responsible for collaborating with the current organization leadership and engagement team to raise at least the annual budget ($1.8M+).
Weekly Administrative Tasks:

Create bi-weekly reports, according to a designated format, to track the weekly progress and effectiveness of the development goals outlined in this role description.
Track all activities in the DonorPerfect to identify and follow long-term connections. This includes assuring the integrity and accuracy of the organization’s donor records.
Work one day a week at the Decatur clinic.
Work with the Financial Controller to ensure the integrity of financial records and donor receipts.
Strategic Planning Tasks:

Responsible for communication with the CEO on a regular basis.
Assist in identifying potential board members that will be able to provide solid financial security (at least $7,500 annually) for the organization, hosting one table at the gala, plus individuals that will assist in broadening overall connections with the Atlanta community.
Prepare an overall plan for all development activities, including goals and a model for executing the plan and evaluating effectiveness. The development activities include but are not limited to: regular annual giving, major gifts (defined as $10,000+ per year), planned giving (defined as $25,000+ per year), grant writing, corporate event sponsors (defined as $5,000+ per event), private/family event sponsors (defined as $5,000+ per event), foundations, stewardship strategies, and on-going formal asks in general within the community.
Focus the majority of time on major gifts, large grants, and strategic relationships with the goal of securing gifts of $10,000 or more and building sustainable and predictable funding streams.
Work with the Communication & Events Specialist to execute the plan by inviting input during the planning process, solidifying the case for support and key messages, providing supportive leadership, and coaching for success.
Event Related Tasks:

Identify and establish corporate and private/family sponsors, and finalize details related to sponsorships.
Work alongside the board and the CEO to pursue high dollar individuals to be in attendance at events.
Support the  details and logistics for the organization:
2 Events per year:
March Annual Gala: Work with events team, silent auction coordinator, and the ED. In conjunction with the CEO, execute date selection, speaker selection, site selection, theme selection, timeline, and broad vision casting.
October Fall Event: Work with events team, and the ED.
Oversee the Communication & Events Specialist for the execution of event details: database, invites, ticket sales, program, visual appeals, centerpieces, table numbers, nametags, table sponsors, entertainments, and overall marketing tasks.
Oversee the  event’s silent auction, in conjunction with the Silent Auction Coordinator and Communications & Events Specialist.
Church Related Tasks:

Oversee Church Relations (as it relates to gathering new donors):
Maintain relationships with current church partners and liaisons by incorporating regular communications and touch points into the plan for each year.
Expand church relationships through group volunteer opportunities and meeting with pastors/church leaders of prospective church partners.
Represent Beacon at church events and ministry fairs.
Conduct pastor appreciation once annually.
Oversee all of the logistical details with Baby Bottle Boomerang and other church relationships.
Continually pursue ABOH becoming a line item in church budgets in partnership with the CEO.
Oversee all Community Awareness Events/Service Project Events.
Advancement Tasks:

Reach out to former and current supporters, cultivate a relationship, and request renewed and/or continued support.
Create and schedule opportunities for the CEO to have lunch with potential donors that are ready to make a financial commitment.
Oversee the research of current funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position ABOH ahead of major funding changes and trends.
Identify beneficial ways for A Beacon of Hope to serve and connect with the community. Target audiences include churches, schools, OBGYNs, and attorneys.
Grant/Foundation Related Tasks:

Through active research, identify grant and foundation funding opportunities, cultivate such relationships, and in collaboration with the CEO prepare grant/foundation applications and reports.
General Public Relations Tasks:

Intentionally interact with other nonprofit organizations within the community that could further our reach, for example, the North Fulton and Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce.
Identify unique and creative ways to spread the ABOH mission and needs within the community and to the general public.
Aggressively invite individuals to tour either clinic with the Executive/Site Director to provide an on-site understanding of the services offered.
Set up speaking engagement opportunities for the CEO.
Serve as a liaison for the CEO when communications don’t require direct interactions.
What You Bring:

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Development Director:

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business or a related field required  (A related Master’s degree is a plus).
4+ years in fundraising and development
3+ years of grant proposal writing, research, and reporting
A proven track record of raising $1M or more, achieving organizational annual revenue growth, which includes the ability to cultivate new and existing donors and closing major gifts. Expectations for the role would be year one revenue increase of $150,000, leading to year three revenue growth of $500,000.

Report directly to the governing Board of Trustees.
