About Us:
Afghan Support Network (ASN) is a registered nonprofit 501(c)(3), Oregon’s first culturally specific Afghan-led organization dedicated to serving refugees, immigrants, and families – grounded in lived experience and the spirit of volunteerism. We’re a young community-based organization (CBO) headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon serving more than 1,800 households across Oregon and SW Washington.
The Volunteer Position:
We are seeking a volunteer with a background in social media marketing, SEO optimization, graphic designing, and/or allied skills to help shape our brand strategy and expand digital presence.
This volunteer will work closely with the Volunteer & Data Coordinator as well as the Development Director (https://afghansupportnetwork.org/our-team/) and this would be a wonderful opportunity for a student or early career professional to gain exposure to the Development program area within a cultural nonprofit working alongside a closely-knit and dynamic team. We request that you commit 5-8 hours a week for at least 4 months. We are happy to work flexibly around your availability. Please note this is an unpaid, volunteer position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Social Media Management: Assist in creating engaging content (text, image, and video) for our social media channels across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn using tools such as Canva
- Content Creation: Help draft email newsletters, design promotional flyers, and create website copy to support marketing campaigns
- Website Updates: Monitor website organization, make recommendations for improvement, assist with updating and maintaining website content using Mailchimp
- Analytics and Reporting: Monitor and analyze the performance of social media posts and campaigns, and suggest improvements
- Online Engagement: Monitor social media channels for comments and messages, engaging with the online community in a professional and timely manner to boost outreach and brand awareness
- Market Research: Conduct research on current digital marketing trends, relevant hashtags, and potential new audiences or partners
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: Some experience with marketing and social media, either through education, work, or previous volunteer roles, is beneficial
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with social media platforms is essential. Knowledge of graphic design tools (e.g., Canva), email marketing software (e.g., Mailchimp), or analytics platforms is a plus
- Soft Skills: A proactive, self-motivated individual who can work independently as well as part of a collaborative team
- Passion: An interest in and commitment to the organization’s mission and cause
