Spread the Word Nevada Overview
Spread the Word Nevada was formed in February 2001 by Co-Founders, Laurie Hartig and Lisa Habighorst.
Spread the Word Nevada is dedicated to advancing early childhood literacy by placing books into the homes of children
within Nevada’s at-risk, low-income communities. Through community collaboration, mentorship and family partnership
programs, Spread the Word Nevada fosters reading and language development opportunities ultimately leading to
brighter academic and economic futures for these children. We are dedicated to changing the lives of at-risk children,
one book at a time.
Spread the Word Nevada has various programs that they support, coordinate, and facilitate to advance childhood literacy.
Programs include the Kids-to-Kids program, the Breakfast/Snack Time with Books program, the Books & Buddies program,
the Books on Break program. Currently, the Organization’s programs are being implemented, supported, and utilized
throughout a continuously growing number of elementary schools throughout the Greater Las Vegas Valley and Washoe
County, Nevada.

Position Summary
The Development Manager reports to the Director of Development and manages all fundraising initiatives under
$15,000. In addition to fundraising, the Development Manager also assists with miscellaneous projects, events and administrative duties within the Development department. This position is based in Henderson/Las Vegas.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Conduct research and vetting of potential new donors
• Manages monthly giving program & monthly donors
• Manages the “Gift of Reading” program
• Assist with annual appeals
• Create ways to find new donors; engage first-time donors and steward donors under $15,000
• Work closely with the Director of Development in annual strategic planning
• Speak at public events on behalf of STWN

Donor Outreach, Stewarding and Retention
• Send New Donor Packets to new donors over $1000
• Create outreach strategies to secure new donors
• Accompany Director of Development on major gift meetings when needed
• Conduct tours for new donors when needed
• Assist Director of Development in thanking donors throughout the year (holiday, gala, end of school year)
• Be an integral part of Gala planning team
• Attend auction meetings and venue site visits
• Assist Director of Development with outreach to existing and new table sponsors
• Co-Manage auction portion of event – requesting donations and uploading to GiveSmart, managing night of
needs and staff
• Assist with choosing table gifts, plaques, take-aways for Gala guests
• Be the point person for table sponsor guest names and dietary restrictions
• Conduct outreach to all previous and new auction donors
• Keep hard-copy file for all Donation Forms/Auction item descriptions
• Pick up auction items at vendor sites
• Organize delivery of auction items after gala
• Reconcile end of event reports with Give Smart
• Assist with DonorView updates and work with Director of Development for ways to utilize donor database more
• Create an annual thank-you letter and order new photos for inserts
• Co-manage the annual Giving Tree Mural with Marketing Manager
• Pull reports from DonorView when requested
• Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the Director of Development that are related to the aspects of
the Director of Development or related positions.
Education and/or Experience Requirements
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in development, fundraising, event planning, or equivalent position
• College Degree
General Requirements
• Proven ability to interact effectively with the community and develop relationships with local businesses and
• Experience with a donor database structure program, DonorView/Blackbaud preferred
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Must possess proficient ability to communicate in English in oral and written format
• Use of reliable personal vehicle, valid auto insurance, and valid driver’s license
• May be required to work evenings and weekends on occasion

Certificated, Licenses, Registrations
• Valid Nevada State Drivers’ License
• Current Nevada State Driving Record (w/in 30-days)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand frequently; walk frequently; sit;
use hands and fingers to point, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or
crawl; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds. The vision requirements include close
vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to excessive heat, wet
and/or humid outside conditions. Due to working in the office, warehouse and/or school setting, the noise level in the
environment is moderate to high at times.
