LOCATION

DOROT is a hybrid work environment where team members work part-time onsite and part time remotely. The Senior Program Officer will report to the headquarters located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and should expect to be in the office three to five days a week.

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

Founded in 1976, DOROT (“generations” in Hebrew) facilitates a dynamic partnership between older adults, volunteers, and professionals to address the challenges of an aging population. DOROT is dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults to help them live more independently and as valued community members. Compassionate care and a commitment to excellence are hallmarks of DOROT’s programs and staff. The agency is a recognized innovative leader in mobilizing volunteers and community and supportive services.  Comprehensive programs – conducted onsite, in the home, remotely, and in the community – combat loneliness and social isolation.

DOROT’s diverse clients range in age from 60 to over 100 and vary in physical mobility and economic status. DOROT serves the Jewish and wider community, offering a lifeline of support to older adults in its catchment area (the Upper West Side from 59th to 125th Streets, East Side from 14th to 96th Streets, and Westchester County). DOROT engages more than 6000 volunteers a year in meaningful and impactful programming that improves the lives and health of nearly 5,000 older adults.  Bringing the generations together results in a mutually beneficial partnership that delivers much needed services ranging from enrichment to addressing critical daily needs.

ABOUT THE SUPPORTIVE SERVICES DIVISION 

The Senior Program Officer (SPO) for Supportive Services directs DOROT’s largest program area providing leadership to two Program Directors who oversee Constituent and Community Services and Onsite and Special Programs. The Division includes the following programs and teams:

Door to Door: Travel Companions accompany older adults to essential appointments, on walks, and shop on their behalf
Friendly Visiting: Volunteers are matched with older adults for weekly or monthly visits that evolve into long-lasting friendships
Kosher Meals at Home: Frozen meals are delivered weekly to older adults who cannot cook or shop for themselves
Onsite and Special Programs: Classes on health and wellness, legacy arts, and advance care planning, as well as vibrant special programs, discussion groups and social gatherings
Case Assistance & Information and Referral: Guidance, information and resources related to DOROT’s programs and other aging services are shared with older adults, caregivers, and the general public
Synagogue Partnerships: Social work expertise is provided to older congregants, clergy, staff, and lay leaders

THE OPPORTUNITY

As a member of DOROT’s Senior Management Team, the Senior Program Officer for Supportive Services’ portfolio includes a team of 35 staff and budgets totaling $2.2M, and robust programming that integrates a vital layer of social work into service delivery.

Reporting to the Chief Program Officer, the SPO is responsible for ensuring clinical excellence for seniors as well as leading the staff that support them. The ideal candidate is a multi-faceted professional and thought leader, equally adept at critical thinking, management and planning, and program analysis and assessment. DOROT seeks an exceptional leader who has a track record in successfully inspiring and guiding staff through growth and transformation while using data to inform programmatic direction.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The SPO is responsible for the following in addition to any other projects as assigned by their manager, the Chief Program Officer:

Strategic Vision 

  • Participate in driving strategic direction, agency-wide objectives, and standards of excellence in collaboration with two other Senior Program Officers, Chief Program Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Advancement Officer, and the Executive Director.
  • Represent DOROT within the aging and social service communities to build strategic partnerships and external networking to continually expand DOROT’s expertise.
  • Guide staff in advancing social work practices and systems, organizational growth, and expansion. Ensure uniformity in agency policies and protocols both intra- and inter-departmentally.
  • Embrace a forward-thinking and creative approach to program planning and the creation and implementation of effective solutions and new and/or modified program initiatives that align with DOROT’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with peers and board leadership to effect good governance, new initiatives, data management, and program assessment.

Leadership & Team Building 

  • Provide leadership, management supervision, and operational guidance to reporting Directors. Be accountable for the individuals served and the outcomes created by their departments.
  • Coordinate with People & Culture, IT, and Marketing and Communications Departments as well as all Program Directors to support efficiency, cooperation, and synergy throughout the agency.

Program Development & Management 

  • Establish annual priorities, best practices, budgets, and comprehensive work plans to include:Monitoring and refining short and long-term program goals, benchmarks, and logic models
  • Tracking/analyzing progress and addressing challenges and opportunities
  • Ensuring program objectives are met
  • Provide guidance and ensure successful implementation of agency wide client assessments and client touch points.
  • Review data related to evaluation measures to facilitate integral program discussions.
  • Partner with the Development Team to formulate grant proposals and reports.
  • Oversee the execution of grant activities and the successful achievement of deliverables.

HOW YOU WILL BE MEASURED

At the end of year one, the Senior Program Officer will have led a comprehensive review of the psycho-social assessment used for in-home programs as well as the client management system used to track this and other client interactions/ activities. S/he/they will have also worked to build productive relationships and trust with all levels of management and staff to instill collaboration, open lines of communication, and transparency for issues that arise.  During this time the SPO will have also gained a deep understanding of DOROT’s program portfolio and current social work practices with an eye toward refining systems and protocols to clarify and strengthen social work roles and interventions. S/he/they will have guided Directors on the team in setting and achieving goals for reintroducing paused programs, adapting workloads and service delivery to incorporate both in-person and virtual program models, and integrating new Strategic Plan initiatives.  Finally, a strong SPO will be a proactive, engaged and strategic contributor to the Senior Program Team and Senior Management  Team, helping to set the vision, priorities and messaging for the overall agency.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • LMSW or clinical degree in a similar field required, LCSW preferred, with proven track record of program management and senior leadership, demonstrating an increasing level of responsibility
  • Experienced in supervising a team of social workers and/or informing clinical best practices; SIFI preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of the field of aging and social work best practices, and experience in establishing effective operational policies and protocols to maximize client services and outcomes
  • Experience with and comfort in representing an organization among various stakeholders and audiences including local and national conferences, professional associations, and affinity groups, and in media.
