SMART's mission is to ensure that motivated, middle school students have access to a high quality of education regardless of their families' financial status. Our program provides a network of ongoing support for its students to ensure a smooth and comfortable transition into their new schools and to promote a successful academic experience for each child. The SMART network includes: families, schools, after-school programs, summer programs, and a community of volunteers. It is SMART's goal that upon graduating from middle school, our participants will demonstrate a commitment to academic excellence and a strong sense of values positioning them for personal and professional success in high school, college, and beyond.

SMART works in liaison with select independent and parochial schools to provide its students with a full scholarship for grades six through eight. SMART contributes between $0.00 and $3,000.00 per student each year toward tuition, books, and uniform, and the school pays the remaining scholarship costs (this figure will vary, depending on how much each school is willing to contribute toward the student's scholarship).

SMART recruits tutors and mentors and individually screens and matches them with participants.
