Senior Cyber Net Senior Cyber Net is a non-profit program run out of Towson University. Our purpose is two-fold: we bring the world to limited-mobility seniors, and disabled persons who are not necessarily seniors, by placing loaned computers into their homes and teaching them to use the Internet and email. This helps alleviate the isolated feeling that many home-bound citizens experience. We also set up and help maintain community centers. By placing computers and volunteers into these centers, we are giving children a safe place to go after school, where they can receive help with homework and improve their computer skills.
We need volunteers to assist us in the following areas:
Mentors: volunteers are needed to go into homes and high-rises to train seniors on how to use the Internet and email. Commitment: 2 hours a week for 8 weeks.
Technicians: volunteers are needed to go to our worksite, in Catonsville, MD, to help refurbish and/or install computers into participants' homes. No experience necessary, hands-on training provided at the worksite. After a specific number of computers have been refurbished, the volunteer may take one home to keep.
Community centers: volunteers are needed to help set up computers at these sites and to assist children and other community members with the computers.
