Internship Description:
The Four-Community Prevention Program at Family Service and Mental Health Center of Oak Park and River Forest is looking for an intern for our school-based substance abuse and violence prevention programs. The intern must be available approximately 10 hours per week. Our program works within the multiple ecologies of childhood (i.e., peer group, family, school, neighborhood and the community).
Peacemaker Interns will gain experience in the following:
- Classroom-based lessons
- After-school programs
- Community Meetings/Community Organizing
- Internet research
Requirements:
- Transportation
- Belief that every child has the potential to contribute positively to their world
- Activities journal
- Flexibility
- Open to the possibility of working with youth between the ages of 5 and 18.
Optional:
- Knowledge of Spanish
- Computer proficiency
- Educational interests in sociology, psychology, education or law
