We are currently recruiting for a new program starting in September. It is called National Rapid Response Corps (NRRC) and is part of AmeriCorps. The NRRC is a 10 1/2 month full time volunteer program in emergency services. There is a living allowance and an education award that can be used to pay off student loans or further education. The volunteers will be working on disaster relief in Philadelphia, teaching disaster preparedness to the community, recruitment of other volunteers, health and safety training, and a 21 day national disaster assignment. In order to be eligible for the program you must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED, be a US citizen, US National, or lawful permanent resident, and possess a current and valid driver's license. The type of person we are looking for would be available to mobilize on disaster assignments for up to 21 days with little advance notice; have an interest in teaching and training others; and can demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, initiative, and are team oriented. The objectives of the NRRC are to serve on national disaster assignments; to respond to local daytime disaster calls to provide emergency assistance to families; to provide children and youth of traditionally underserved families with disaster preparedness and safety education; to recruit volunteers for the Red Cross; and to be involved in your own personal and professional development, gaining new knowledge and skills. Basically the NRRC is a great combination of office and hands on work that is very rewarding. We are accepting applications until July 6 and they can be obtained by sending a resume to Dolores LeBec, American Red Cross, 23rd and Chestnut Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or fax it to 215-751-0995. If you have any questions about NRRC or Red Cross Disaster Services, contact Dolores at 215-299-4058 or lebecd@redcross-philly.org. Thank you. |
