You Can Help Families Affected by the Terrorist Attack
The events of September 11th left 100,000 New Yorkers unemployed. These families are now at risk of falling into debt,
hunger and homelessness. But you can help them get thousands of dollars in tax benefits.
Did you know?
* Families with children can get up to $5,010 back in tax refunds if they earn less than $32,121.
* Over 250,000 eligible New Yorkers don't get the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
* Over half a billion dollars is going unclaimed in New York.
Volunteers are needed from mid-January through mid-April to help families complete tax returns
Volunteers will receive:
* FREE training from the IRS (no prior experience is necessary)
* Placement at a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Site
* Options for when and where to volunteer
* All the supplies you need, including forms, computers and software
* Access to expert help if questions arise about tax forms
* The satisfaction of helping families access needed income
