Our mission is to offer individuals, in their own community, a full range of responsive and accessible mental health services.
Description:
Riverbend programs include outpatient counseling services; 24-hour emergency mental health services; specialized services for children and families; the Parent-Child Centers parenting education and family support services; community support, case management, substance abuse services, vocational and residential services for adults with serious and persistent mental illness; elder mental health services; a therapeutic art studio and "Heart and Soul" shop (which sells consumer-produced art); and employee assistance programs.

AMERICORPS*VISTA Volunteer - Adult Services
Directions: Downtown Concord, New Hampshire; Bicentennial Square
Description: The Americorps*VISTA volunteer will be working with Riverbend Community Mental Health to improve the community relations between children and parents with mental illness issues and the outside community. This one-year position will be starting in the Fall of 99. Goals: 1)Manage and Promote public speaking among Riverbend clients 2)Develop an array of artistic, social and vocational mentors for Riverbend clients 3)Write grants to fund community programs, and 4)Promote and organize the Pillar House Blues Band and arrange for engagements This is a government-funded living allowance paid position with benefits and education grant upon leaving. Description: A*VISTA volunteer - Children and Parent's Services Description:
The Americorps*VISTA volunteer will be working with Riverbend Community Mental Health to improve the community relations between children and parents with mental illness issues and the outside community. This one-year position will be starting in the Fall of 99. Goals: 1)To develop a network of directors of children's services and family resource ctrs 2)Increase the awareness of the need for children's services in NH's legislature 3)Increase public's awareness of same 4)Implement the organization of a Children's Mental Health Regional Planning Committee and WRAP team in the area. Computer Tutor
Req. Skills: Working knowledge of Windows 95 and Microsoft Word ; willingness to work with persons with mental illnesses
Directions: Downtown Concord, New Hampshire
Description: Teaching basic computers; Service involves teaching computer skills in a Microsoft Windows 95 environment, including word processing and web surfing. Schedule is presently Tuesday 10-12 and Thursday 1-3 but some accommodation is possible.(commitment is 2hrs./week)

Coordinator of Riverbend Speakers Bureau
Req. Skills: Comfortable using phone and contacting potential sites.
Directions: Downtown Concord, New Hampshire
Description: Coordinating speaking engagements for the Riverbend Speakers Bureau, a group of Riverbend consumers who try to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness by speaking to New Hampshire schools, religious organizations and civic groups. Service includes contacting potential churches, schools and groups, and communicating with group.

Equipment and Sound Manager
Req. Skills: Able to lift 40 lbs, transportation to gigs necessary
Directions: Throughout New Hampshire, based in Concord
Description: Service is performed during performances and may include operating PA system, tuning and organizing equipment, helping organize sale of CDs(commitment approx. 10 hrs. per month)

Job Coach/Mentor
Req. Skills: Experience with clerical or other skills, willingness to help persons with mental illnesses develop skills that will prepare them for employment.
Directions: Downtown Concord, New Hampshire
Description: Job coaching and resume building. Service involves helping our vocational department to prepare consumers for employment; schedule is to be arranged between the volunteer and the vocational department.(commitment is 2hrs./week)

Parent/Child Center Aide/Newsletter Delivery
Req. Skills: Good with directions, transportation
Directions: Concord primarily, but all over Merrimack County
Description: Service is performed on a once per two-month basis and requires transportation; delivery is to various children-oriented businesses in Concord, Penacook, Hillsboro, Franklin and Pittsfield.(commitment 12 hrs. every 2 months)

Pillar House Blues Coordinator
Req. Skills: Comfortable using phone and making schedules, working with individuals
Directions: Downtown Concord, New Hampshire
Description: Coordinating gigs for Pillar House Blues, a band organized by Riverbend consumers, who seek to spread the message of recovery from mental illness through music and of working with one's abilities rather than disabilities.

Art Studio Assistant
Req. Skills: Some art or mental health experience helpful but not required.
Directions: Heart and Soul store, State and Pleasant Streets, Concord
Description: Assist art therapist with tasks. May include pottery assistance, organization and cleanup or direct contact with consumers depending on experience. Will accommodate personal schedule.

Gardener
Req. Skills: Some gardening experience
Directions: Various locations
Description: Help with gardening and landscaping for Concord and Penacook locations. May involve supervising other volunteer gardeners. Various times available.
