First Concern is a non-profit human service organization that helps young adults that are turning 18 and leaving the state's child care institutions with learning to live on their own. Just when these kids do not have anyone else to turn to, they have First Concern. First Concern helps youth, which have just come out of foster care or institutions, with finishing their education, finding jobs, and learning self-sufficiency and problem solving skills. These kids live in their own apartments with staff near by to give appropriate supervision. First Concern's staff and volunteers provide the teaching and support necessary to become successful independent adults. I have enclosed our recent newsletter so you can have a better picture about what our organization is about.
We are in search of volunteers. At First Concern a volunteer might:
First Concern will provide all volunteers who have done a good job with job references for employment and academic purposes.
In some cases, volunteers may have the opportunity to find full time employment with First Concern through their volunteer
services with the organization. There are numerous personal benefits received by our volunteers. The opportunity to help
others; putting hobbies and skills to good use; meeting new people; learning new skills; opportunities to make professional
contacts; gaining work experience; getting academic credit and having an opportunity to give back and making others feel good
about themselves.
