College Bound Mission: College Bound provides educational, social, and financial support to low-income D.C. public school students who express a desire to attend college. Our overriding purpose is to help participating students finish high school, enroll in college, earn a degree and become lifelong lovers of education. This proposal supports our mission in that it will help us to continue the quality programs we have offered for the past eight years and develop new resources to meet the changing needs of our organization and students.

· What do I have to do?
As a College Bound volunteer, there are two basic requirements:
1) Attend weekly meetings
2) Make one follow-up call each week to their student

In addition, College Bound requests that partners assist the program more generally by bringing snacks at least once a semester, helping to recruit other partners, and attending program-sponsored fundraisers.

· How else can I get involved with my student? Many partners find that they would like to make an additional investment in the program. These partners may choose to speak with their student several times a week, or meet at other times for additional tutoring session. Other partners meet for lunch, take their students to ball games, or go to the movies. However, each partner decides how involved he or she would like to be.

In addition to your relationship with your student, you may also want to get to know the student's family, teachers, coaches, etc.

· What should I do if I have to miss a meeting? If you are unable to attend a tutoring session, please call your student and the College Bound office as soon as possible. Occasional absences are understandable. However, if a partner is no longer able to make regular weekly meetings, it will work better for the student and organization if alternative volunteer opportunities are identified.
