Charlestown Lacrosse and the Charlestown Lacrosse Learning Center provide youth in the neighborhood with athletic and acdemic after-school opportunities that are positive, enriching and diverse. We offer lacrosse teams in the spring, and academic and educational enrichment programs all year long.
Learning Center volunteers are needed in a few areas: WORKSHOPS - we run several programs a year based on a "Learning for the Community" model. Small groups of students meet weekly with a workshop instructor to learn a specific skill (web design, animation, videography, music, publication) by creating a final project geared at educating the community about drugs, alcohol, environment etc. These workshops are run by volunteer instructors who have a "multi-media" skill and are willing to share it with the students. They are really successful and really fun! ACADEMIC WORKSHOPS - this fall we are running 1class that will help students learn study skills, test taking skills and time managment skills in order to help them take the ISEE and SSAT test (for exam schools and independent school admission) and better succeed in school. Volunteer Lacrosse Coaches are needed to teach lacrosse to children ages 8-18. The season is from March through June. Coaches volunteer approximately 10 hours a week in the season. Interested volunteers can email me at KMECHRISTOU@yahoo.com. or call 617-242-1813. |
